Bence Bogányi was born into a Hungarian family of musicians.
At the age of 9 he started playing the bassoon in Hungary and later on studied in Finland, Sweden and Germany.
In 1997 Bence Bogányi won the First Prize at the International Crusell Competition in Finland. Followed by several international prizes, like the First Prize at the International “Fernand Gillet – Hugo Fox” Competition in Indianapolis (USA) and the Second Prize, together with the desired Audience Prize at the International ARD Music Competition in Munich, where he competed with his Quintet Chantily.
Bence Bogányi was appointed principal bassoonist at the Helsinki State Opera in 1997 and later on he won the same position at the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2005 he moved on to the Radio-Symphony-Orchestra Berlin and after that became the principal bassoonist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra from 2007 until 2013.
As a chamber musician and soloist he has appeared all over Europe and Asia and he is regularly performing as a guest principal bassoonist with renowned ensembles, like the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Bavarian State Opera in Munic and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Numerous recordings for CD and radio line his path. During his outstanding musical career, he dedicated himself also to contemporary music. He is looking for an intensive exchange with composers and has already played several premieres, including a world premier in 2005 of a bassoon concerto, written for him by the Finnish composer Kalevi Aho, together with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2009 to 2013 Bence Bogányi taught bassoon as a Professor at the Nürnberg Music Academy. In 2013 he was appointed Professor of bassoon at the Hanover Academy of Music.
